Operational issues
Security information
system users will expect the system to be secure. This means unauthorized access cannot access personal infomation .This will also include editing and deleting data. The IT department who maintains the system will have to also specify who can view and alter infomation.
The bank must have the highest possible security for a system because of the amount of money the organisation holds. The system must be safe and secure for no one who is unauthorized to access , steal or manipulate or transfer the data because millions of system users have bank accounts with sums of money. The IT department have to create a system where users can insert and extract money and where they can view documents .The department should also allow staff from the bank to alter and add information.
Back ups
In any organisation it is required to back up the infomation in case of a physical problem (e.g a natural disaster) or a processing malfunction. The back up just then needs to be transferred to another area away from the system for security.
In total there are three types of back ups
-Full back up-backs up all infomation
-incremental back up-back up files which been altered or that are new since the last incremental backup.
-differential back up-backs up files which have been altered since the last full back up .
This is crucial for a bank.It must back up files every week in case of a disaster. This is because millions of people around the world will rely on the bank for the access of their money. The back up file should be away from the original system so if there is a disaster both do not get destroyed.
Health and safety
Regulations which apply when designing/maintaining the system are/is the monitor, table and chair must be positioned properly so users do not have back and neck strain injuries. Furthermore a organisation must have a swivel chair with wheels in a it department.Plus staff should take regular breaks to avoid RSI and arthritis.
The IT department in a bank must obey the regulation listed above.Office and workplaces laws apply when using ICT or maintaining a system
Organisational policies
organisation have policies which staff should abide by.Staff should keep all information confidential from external people.Be aware of all staff and customer rights.Correcting information if it wrong.
Staff from banks should not reveal any information which could affect the banks.A example includes telling someone the boss's wage.Staff should always be friendly towards new and current customers and should always tell them their rights and deals towards the bank.
Business continuance plan
In the 21st century ict is a major part of an organisation.the organisation should have a plan if the ict system or sector fails. The ict department should have a indication of what to do if the system fails, so that they can keep the system running and still provide a service.
A business continuance plan is essential for a bank, as they need to keep a service running for millions of customers. The ict department should have a plan to keep the system running if their is a failure. One way to address this problem is for the ict department to create other terminals which are connected to different networks. If one terminal fails then the system can run on the other terminal.
Costs
Any organisation should be wary of costs. They should also focus the costs of the ict department. The two main areas for costing ict project are
First is the one off costs where equipment should be brought for the department. This also means installation, testing and training for the staff.
The next cost is the ongoing costs for the system. These could be minor changes in the system to keep the organisation running.
Costs are essential for a bank. One of costs banks must buy is a computer system, terminal, multiple networks which can connect together, super computer and hardware such as ATM.
They must keep the ict department running. This means keep on going costs for a system to keep running.A ict system is essential in a bank as you have millions of customers who will use it everyday. They will rely on this by using different media to access this.Telephone, websites bank statements etc.
Impact of increasing sophistication of systems
Computer systems are becoming more complicated. This means staff need to be trained in how the new software operates. However there can be staff which know nothing about computer systems, so therefore staff should be taught the basics such as how to complete transactions, queries and how to create reports.
Banks will need to have staff which know about how to use computer systems because systems are vital. It will hold information about millions of customers. If staff do not how to use computers the consequences may be dire.Computer systems for banks are used everywhere. It can be online using a computer or a app on a phone. It can also be ATM computer system.
Banks will teach staff how to use computer systems once they arrive to the company.
